Becoming a kind leader

Greetings from the U MATTER team!

Our mission at U MATTER goes beyond just improving psycho-social health. We believe in empowering individuals, particularly the young populace of Tanzania, to become kind leaders in their communities. This belief has given rise to our 5-part, evidence-based programme that focuses on kindness, self-acceptance, personal identity, positivity, growth, and self-protection. This programme has received outstanding reviews and has created impactful change within our region.

1 – KIND LEADERSHIP: At the core of our programme is the cultivation of Kind Leadership. The art of giving, receiving, and observing kindness at work is central to this module. We delve into the notion that leadership isn’t about authority, but about fostering a sense of camaraderie, empathy, and mutual respect.

2 – FEELING YOU MATTER: The next part of our programme deals with the intrinsic need to feel valued. To create environments where every individual is noticed, appreciated, valued, and respected, is our objective. When individuals understand that they matter, it ignites a spark of self-belief and motivation that can lead to extraordinary change.

3 – UBUNTU & WHAKAPAPA: Our third segment draws from the powerful African philosophy of Ubuntu and the Maori concept of Whakapapa. We guide individuals in understanding their roots and their belonging, which help in creating safe, brave, and kind spaces. This understanding of personal identity and interconnectedness fosters a sense of belonging and a stronger community.

4 – POSITIVITY AND GROWTH: We delve into the realm of positive emotions, exploring the balance between embracing positivity, acknowledging uncertainty, and avoiding the pitfall of toxic positivity. This part of our program encourages individuals to perceive challenges as opportunities for growth, leading to resilience and mental strength.

5 – PROTECTION FROM HARM: Lastly, we emphasize self-care, self-compassion, and self-determination as the foundational pillars for protection from harm. We believe that respecting one’s boundaries and ensuring self-protection is integral to being able to extend kindness and leadership to others.
